Vanilla

Homemade Vanilla is actually easier than you think, however, it does take time.

Supplies:

empty bottle like this or one you already have a home will work too

alcohol (30 – 40% alcohol by volume) Vodka or Bourbon work well

4-6 whole vanilla beans

Dark bottles like these for storing or packaging

  1. Cut vanilla beans lengthwise and scrape out the caviar (or vanilla seeds) place into bottle. Cut vanilla beans in half if needed to fit in bottle.
  2. fill with vodka or bourbon

 
20151013_1622593. Place in warm dark space for 4 – 6 weeks

4. Shake about once a week.

5. 6 weeks in it should be darker and done. Strain vanilla through cheesecloth and store in dark bottles.
